Good month for textures 

Hey guys so August we spent most of the time texturing the town of Wahoo Beach and Pumpkinvale. We're approaching the stage of development where things are becoming quiet because we are working on polishing up things that are already there. We're not sure how likely this would be but we are still aiming for an early 2017 Beta release. It's been almost exactly a year since we started working in Unreal 4 and things and we have gotten so much work done in such a short period of time. I'm eager to see where we will be at the end of the year. 

 

Environment Texturing

 

So like I mentioned we've textured all three towns. However, they aren't 100% finished as some of the buildings have some mesh issues and at least 2 buildings in each town need to be remodelled because of glitches (So much fun). However if you zoom out and take a general view of the towns they look more or less complete.

 

 

 

Music

 

I don't mention music much, but we have all the songs we need for Beta. We just completed our minimum requirement for Wahoo Beach of two songs for each season. So we have eight songs total for Wahoo Beach and they all sound pretty good. However, we're not going to reveal until we release the game. 

 

What we're working on next

 

We've got a lot of work to catch up on, but Jayden is back from vacation so hopefully we should have more things to show next time around. Currently we are working on the NPCs, so that involves setting up the dialogue, npc schedules, heart system, gift giving and more. Things may go a bit quiet for a bit because much of what we will be working on is polishing up existing systems and entering data.

Also in the coming months once the NPC systems are set up properly we will finally be tackling lighting and shading in the game. Currently every time we release a demo video someone tells us the lighting is too dark and contrasty. Trust me we know. We want our game to look good of course, but we're focusing on getting functionality in first before we start tinkering with aesthetics which can take awhile. I personally spent nearly 6 hours adjusting the colors of the sky and it's still not quite what I want.

 

Moving forward it's going to be world building and working on NPCs systems. Then we will be returning to character customization a bit later as well.

 

Goals for next month

 

- Build the interior of shops

- Populate cookbook

- Work on NPC dating system

- Work on NPC schedules

- Work on NPC errands
